Transfer Station Hours and Information

Hours of Operation
Saturdays only during the open season
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The season typically runs from the first Saturday in April through the first Saturday in December.
Official opening and closing dates are determined annually (weather permitting).
- General Requirements:
- Proof of Plainville residency is required.
- Commercial businesses and commercial vehicles are not permitted.
- A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items is posted at the facility.
- Items not specifically listed may be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the certified Transfer Station operator and/or attendant.
- Dumping of unacceptable materials—including hazardous, volatile, highly flammable, or explosive items—is strictly prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Accepted Items:
The following materials are accepted:
Household waste
Household appliances
Furniture
Mattresses and box springs
Brush (maximum 4 feet in length and less than 6 inches in diameter)
Leaves
Miscellaneous metals (maximum 6 feet in length and width; barrels must have both ends removed and be free of fluids)
Tires (maximum of 2 per load; must be removed from rims)
Waste motor oil
Antifreeze
Non-refillable propane cylinders and fuel torches up to 16 ounces
Refillable propane tanks up to 20lbs

Stones and concrete
Plumbing fixtures (includes toilets)

Logs greater than 6 inches in diameter
Grass clippings
Motor vehicle parts (including batteries)

- Bulky Waste, Trash & Other Burnables
- Cars: $10 per load
- Pickup Trucks/Vans: $20 per base load or part thereof (maximum $40 per load)
- Dump Trucks/Larger Vehicles: $30 per base load or part thereof (maximum $65 per load)
- Trailers: $10 per base load or part thereof (maximum $40 per load)
- Miscellaneous Metals
- Cars: $10 per load
- Pickup Trucks/Vans: $20 per base load or part thereof (maximum $30 per load)
- Dump Trucks/Larger Vehicles: $20 per base load or part thereof (maximum $30 per load)

- $10 per item (maximum 3 items per load)
- Tires: $5 each (less than 8.00/20 or 8-inch width and a 20-inch rim) /$10 each (greater than 8.00/20)

- Dump Trucks/Larger Vehicles: $20 per base load or part thereof (maximum $40 per load)
