Building Department

The Building Department consists of the Building Inspection Department and Code and Zoning Enforcement. These areas are responsible for enforcing the current prevailing codes, regulations, ordinances and statutes adopted by the Town of Plainville and the State of Connecticut.

The Building Department has many functions including reviewing applications for permits, reviewing construction plans, issuing permits, conducting inspections and issuing certificates of occupancy, use or completion.

ONLINE BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATION

The Town of Plainville offers citizens the ability to apply for permits online through ViewPoint Cloud. This system will allow you to apply for permits and make payments from the office or home.

Through this system, citizens and contractors can apply for:

  • Building Permits
  • Demolition Permits
  • Electrical Permits
  • Mechanical Permits
  • Plumbing Permits
  • Pool Permits
  • Solar Permits
  • Fence Permits
  • Shed Permits

Please visit the site at https://plainvillect.viewpointcloud.com

The site will require you to enter an email address and create a password for an account profile. After this is done you may select your type of work and complete the corresponding application. Under this same profile, citizens and contractors may apply for permits with any other town that also uses ViewPoint Cloud.

You will be notified via email throughout the approval process informing you of the application status. You may also log in to the system to view the current status of pending applications by checking your profile page.

Payments may be made online, via a credit card or e-check -- *please note, there is an additional fee for online payments.  Payments can also be made in person via check or cash at no additional charge in room 100.

An electronic permit will be emailed to the applicant after the application and payment have been processed. This permit should be printed and kept on the job site at all times.

Please note that the application process is not an approval for work to begin. Work on a project may only begin after the application has been approved, payment has been made, AND a valid permit has been issued.

Inspections of work will still be scheduled by calling the Building Department during regular business hours: 860-793-0221 x 7175.
