America 250 Plainville CT Committee
The America 250 Plainville CT Committee is a temporary committee created to plan and coordinate community events and displays commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Committee is made up of 10 members, 2 Town Council Members and 10 citizens at large.
June 30 - A visit to the old East Street Burial Grounds (6:00pm—8:00pm)
Visitors will receive a map and booklet and be able to “self-guide” as they walk through the cemetery and learn about each person. This includes our Revolutionary War veterans.

May 19, 6PM:
Liberty to Legacy (1776 v Hamilton)
This is a presentation by Michael Langlois about the musicals 1776 and Hamilton. The program will feature clips from both musicals, as well as a lecture on the similarities and differences between the performances.
June 24, 6PM:
Amistad 200
This program provides historical information about the Amistad story and Connecticut’s role in the Abolitionist movement. This will feature the true story of the 53 African people who fought a legal battle against slavery.
July 8, 6PM:
Line Dancing
Participants will learn about the history of Line Dancing in America and its roots in folk dance with African and Caribbean influence; something that is uniquely American. Attendees will also learn some basic line dancing steps. No experience necessary!
July 14, 6PM:
Tories, Spies and Traitors:Divided Loyalty in Revolutionary CT
This is a presentation about revolutionary times, specifically in Connecticut. There will be stories of real CT residents, some well known and some less known, and what they had to sacrifice to stand by their chosen side during this divisive time in American history.
August 18, 6PM:
CT’s Forgotten High Seas
Presented by Mike Allen, this lecture will inform the audience about CT’s maritime history, including tales of whaling adventures and historic lighthouses.
