Detective Division

Commander:  Lieutenant CJ Roper

Detectives will investigate major or complicated cases from the onset; however, most cases are follow-up investigations initiated by patrol officers. These investigations include but are not limited to homicide, serious assault, sexual assault, arson, illegal drugs, robbery, burglary, identity theft, larceny, among others. This necessitates working closely with other law enforcement agencies and investigative specialists in private business. One of our detectives is highly trained in digital forensics and two are certified fire investigators.

Among other responsibilities, detectives periodically conduct background investigations on police officer candidates, give crime prevention seminars, participate in the Juvenile Review Board, monitor the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry, ensure the forfeiture of firearms from those involved with domestic violence, investigate pistol permit applicants, and assist the patrol division with investigative matters.
