Plainville, CT - The Plainville Fire Department has announced wake and funeral arrangements for Firefighter Raymond Moreau, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty earlier this week.

Wake/Vigil

The wake will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville, CT, from 3:00 p.m. to approximately 7:00 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

Due to expected attendance, parking for uniformed personnel and the public will be at the former GE property at 41 Woodford Avenue, Plainville, with shuttles running to and from the funeral home starting at 2:45 p.m.

Funeral

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Central Connecticut State University’s Welte Hall, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT.

Uniformed personnel attending the funeral are asked to arrive at CCSU by 8:15 a.m. Parking for uniformed personnel and the public will be available in the Welte Garage located at 39 Ella T. Grasso Boulevard.

At the conclusion of the funeral service, attendees will participate in a procession to the cemetery. Members of the public are encouraged to line the route to show their support and honor Firefighter Moreau’s service and sacrifice.

Additional Information

To maintain safety and efficiency, we kindly ask that outside fire apparatus not be part of the funeral. Public safety honor guards wishing to participate with a Color Team are asked to RSVP as soon as possible to Honor Guard Branch Director William Cadella at [email protected].

“We are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and our fellow first responders,” said Fire Marshal Ronald Dievert, who is serving as Public Information Officer for the services. “Firefighter Moreau’s dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Further details, including cemetery arrangements and procession routes, will be shared as they are finalized.

Media Guidance – Firefighter Raymond Moreau Services

The media is encouraged to attend both the wake/vigil on Friday and the funeral service at CCSU on Saturday. The family of Firefighter Moreau has graciously extended an invitation for media to attend the cemetery service immediately following the funeral, where a Life Star Helicopter flyover and final blessing will take place. We ask that no drones be flown at the cemetery due to safety concerns with the flyover.

Wake/Vigil (Friday, August 1)

  • Parking: Media parking will be located across the street from the funeral home in the storage unit parking lot next to the train tracks.
  • Staging: We are working to designate a media staging area, though this remains fluid based on weather conditions, apparatus placement, and the wishes of the family.
  • Support: Both Jon Barbagallo and I will be on site to assist you as needed.

Funeral (Saturday, August 2 – Central Connecticut State University)

  • Parking: Media parking will be in the lot close to Copernicus Hall at the Bichum Lot (180 Paul Manafort Senior Drive).  CCSU Public Safety will be on site to guide you and ensure you can unload equipment without being blocked by fire apparatus or public traffic.
