Emergency Shelter Open at Plainville High School
Update (7/5/26 at 1:50 PM): The Emergency Shelter will remain open until 8:00 PM EST on Sunday, July 5, 2026. We ask that anyone under the age of 18 is accompanied by an adult.
Original Post (7/5/26 at 12:15 PM): Following yesterday's severe storm and the widespread power outages affecting our community, the Town of Plainville has opened the emergency shelter for residents at Plainville High School in the Wood Gymnasium.
Residents are welcome to use the shelter as a safe, cool place to rest and recharge electronic devices. Restrooms are available. Please note that showers are not available at this time.
Residents should enter through the Wood Gym entrance. To access the entrance, use the student parking lot entrance (the first driveway on the right after turning onto Robert Holcomb Way from Rt 10) and proceed to the rear of the school. The entrance doors are clearly marked "Wood Gym." The parking lot entrance near Alumni Field is closed due to a fallen tree.
Town officials continue to work closely with public safety personnel, Public Works crews, and Eversource utility crews to respond to storm damage, restore power, and support residents throughout the recovery effort.
If you do not need to travel, please continue to stay off the roads whenever possible. This will help emergency responders and utility crews safely clear debris and restore services as quickly as possible. As always, stay well away from any downed power lines and report hazardous conditions to the appropriate authorities.
Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
Additional updates will be posted on the Town of Plainville's website and social media pages as information becomes available.
