INTERN - Recreation Program Assistant

POSITION TITLE:               RECREATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT (INTERN)

COMPENSATION:              $15.69/hr

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Plainville Recreation is a municipal agency that serves a population of approximately 17,000 in the town. The department's responsibilities include parks, recreation, and aquatics. The Recreation Assistant’s immediate supervisor will be the Assistant Director. They will also receive general direction from the Recreation Director. JOB SUMMARY

Excellent opportunity for a Recreation & Leisure/Sports Management student or recent graduate that is interested in gaining hands-on experience in the Parks and Recreation field working with an active community Parks and Recreation Department.  Position will involve all aspects of the department including special events, recreation programming, aquatics programming, supervisory responsibilities, customer service and promotion.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Assistant Director with daily operations of a busy, fast paced, diverse and comprehensive summer recreation program. This will include but not limited to the following:

  • Assist with daily operations of a Summer Day Camp and Pre-school Camp
  • Will develop and lead weekly leadership meetings for a brand new C.I.T. Counselors in Training program for youth ages 14-17yrs
  • Assist with preparing and leading summer staff orientation and aquatics staff in-services
  • Help plan and implement summer special events at the pool and park
  • Assist with weekly Summer Concert Series- Thursday evenings 6:30-8pm.
  • Assist with preparation of weekly seasonal payroll
  • Get hands on experience working with RecDesk software including registrations, reports, e-mail blasts, programming, and other functionalities
  • Will learn and be responsible for sending out press releases, surveys, and program evaluations
  • Recreation Program Assistant (Intern) will be given the opportunity to obtain CPR/First Aid certification at no cost        

WORK SCHEDULE

Flexible schedule depending on department and candidates needs. Will require some evening and possible weekend shifts. Maximum of 40/hrs per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be a minimum of 18 years of age with a valid Drivers License. Prefer college graduate or college student majoring in Recreation/Leisure Services- must have career goal in field of Recreation. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills needed.
