Summer Reading 2026

Summer Reading at the Plainville Public Library
What is "Plant a Seed, Read"?
While farms grow food to nourish our bodies, libraries grow ideas to nourish our minds. This summer, we are celebrating the learning, creativity, and community that grows at the public library. As Summer Reading participants read and complete challenges, they will earn prizes, collectible cards, and help grow gardens of artwork at the library. Fun activities for all ages will take place throughout the summer, including a picture book play production, STEAM events, and a visit from pigs!
Why should I participate in summer reading?
Summer brings a time for exploration, outdoor activities, and long days filled with play. It is also the perfect time to visit the public library! Our students have made so much progress during the school year, but learning does not need to pause in June. Research has shown the importance of Summer Reading programs in preventing a “summer slide,” keeping the mind active as children and teens read books, participate in challenges, and attend educational or creative programs. "Plant a Seed, Read" reminds us that libraries are places to explore, try new things, and see what grows!
Who can participate in summer reading?
Anyone! We have three programs: children ages 0-12, Teens ages 12-18, and Adults ages 18 and up.

The first day of Summer Reading is Wednesday, June 24th. Registration will open online one week in advance, and reading logs can be picked up in person at the library. Check back on this page or our library calendar for details about our Summer Reading kick-off.
