Get a Library Card

All residents of Plainville are encouraged to get a free library card. Identification and proof of residency are required to obtain a library card. Acceptable ID is a valid picture ID (driver’s license or State of CT ID) with the applicant's name and current address. If the address on the ID is not current, a piece of mail with the applicant's name and Plainville address sent within the last 30 days is acceptable or a current bill viewed or paid online. A child (17 and under) must have a parent or guardian with them to get a library card.

Cardholders are responsible for all items checked out on their card. Library staff may not give information about your borrowing record to anyone other than you. Library users' borrowing records are confidential and excluded from the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act. You must obtain a library card in the town you legally reside in. A valid library card can be used at any public library in Connecticut.

Plainville Library cards renew every 3 years and can be renewed in person at one of our Circulation Desks or over the phone by calling 860-793-1446.

If you would like to try our online services or place items on hold before coming to the Plainville Library and do not already have a valid library card, you can register online for a 60-day temporary card. To upgrade your card fully, email proof of residency and your temporary library card number to plainvillepubliclibrary@gmail.com or stop by the Circulation Desk during business hours.
