CTDOT ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF THE CENTRAL CONNECTICUT RAIL STUDY

The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced the completion of the Central Connecticut Rail Study (CCRS), a Needs and Feasibility Study that identified necessary improvements to the freight rail line between Berlin and Waterbury, Connecticut.  This Study reviewed potential passenger rail and improved transit service options in this 24-mile corridor.  The Study also included the preparation of a detailed rail infrastructure assessment of the Pan Am Southern freight line in this corridor.  This assessment included an inspection and an evaluation report to determine the cost of improving the freight line and rehabilitating the Terryville Tunnel.  Finally, the Study included an analysis of alternative transit and rail options for the corridor.
