Assessment Appeal Procedure

If you feel your real estate, personal property, or supplemental motor-vehicle assessment is incorrect, you may appeal your assessment to the BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS. You may appeal by submitting a formal written application starting Thursday February 1, 2024 through Tuesday February 20, 2024 -- Applications must be received in office by 5:00pm February 20th, 2024. The completed form should be returned to the Board of Assessment Appeals, c/o Assessor's Office, 1 Central Square, Plainville, CT 06062. The Board of Assessment Appeals meets in March to hear appeals. The Board will  notify all appellants who filed an appeal form on or before February 20th, of the date, time, and place of the appeal hearing. The Board of Assessment Appeals has the power to increase or to reduce assessments. Any change of an assessment by the Board of Assessment Appeals will take affect on the tax bill that comes out in July. 

Motor Vehicle Assessment Appeal Process

If you would like to appeal a motor vehicle tax bill, you must call the Tax and Assessing Department at the end of August and make an appointment with the Board of Assessment Appeals. The Board will meet in September. Call, 860-793-0221, ext 8733 to make an appointment.
