Regular Meeting

PRESENT: The following members were present: Thomas Warnat, Bob Warnat, Bill Bulger, Stacey Norton, Donna Martin, Denis Thompson and Phil Cox, Jr., Town Council Liaison.

I. Approval of Minutes

None

IV. Facilities Report

Berner Pool – 5 plastic replacement drain covers were ordered at the cost of $3,300.00 to replace the metal covers installed last year. The metal cover did not fit securely to pool bottom. New drains fit into drain well and do not lay on pool bottom. They are in compliance with V.G.B. Act and were not available last spring. Drain wells must be altered to have additional frames added to secure covers. For your information in your packet there is a background article on how the Federal Government handled this act. Berner Pool will be opening June 12 (Saturday).

V. Program Reports

  1. Summer Programs - summer employees hired except new lifeguards, water evaluation May 5, 2010. Flyer will be sent out May 14, 2010. Registration begins May 19, 2010 (Wednesday). Day camp starts June 22 (Tuesday).

VI. Old Business

    1. Skateboard Park – meeting on Wednesday, April 20th, Recreation Building.
    2. Eagle Scout - met at Veterans Memorial Park to discuss project – Remove overgrown shrub, shape & prune remaining shrubs, replace existing benches with down town benches, add mulch, power wash monument.
    3. Men’s Softball League – are organized to play this summer. Will pay
    4. $300.00 a-team; at this point 7 teams still organizing leagues.

    5. Crossroads Ranch Inc. – last month it was discussed about a walk a thon. Your suggestion was from Saturday to Sunday. No negative response. No formal request to follow through.

VII. New Business

    1. Score Clock High School Pool – existing clock it is not used by Recreation Department Swim Team. The parents association and recreation swim team is trying to purchase a new swim clock. They raised $13,000 so far. The clocks are around $30,000. Farmington Savings Bank has offered to donate $25,000 towards the purchase of the clock. Colin and the swim team parents association is working with the Superintendents Office to organize bid procedure. There needs to be a special technician to run this. The committee’s concern is that the person running the clock is trained properly and used by all groups Colin to follow up.
    2. Citizen’s & Property Owner’s Association Requests – letter in the packet about wreath laying ceremony July 4th permission was granted.
    3. Midget Football Field Norton Park – was discussed.
    4. Cub Scout Request / Norton Park –
    5. MOTION: Donna Martin made the motion to approve the request from Christine Millette, Committee Chairperson of Cub Scout Pack 49 for the use of Norton Park for an overnight camp-out on June 19, 2010.

      VOTE: Unanimous.

    6. Men’s Softball League ( Sunday) 2010 –

MOTION: Denis Thompson made the motion to allow the Men's Softball (Sunday) League the use of two fields at Norton Park from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m. from the beginning of May to the end of July for the charge of $200 per team.

SECONDED: Stacey Norton.

VOTE: Unanimous.

MOTION: Bob Warnat made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
