Bike Patrol

The Plainville Police Department currently has four police officers assigned to the Bicycle Squad. These police officers must undergo an intense 45 hour training course which includes operating a bicycle in high stress situations, maneuvering among large crowds, and for general patrol use. The officers are also trained in bicycle safety, bicycle maintenance, and laws pertaining to bicyclists.

The Plainville Police Department Bicycle Squad serves an important patrol function. Bike officers patrol public events and parks during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Officers on bicycles maintain high visibility making them readily accessible to citizens and a visible deterrent to potential offenders. They can also patrol areas that are often inaccessible to motor vehicles.

The Plainville Police Department Bicycle Squad is available for groups and organizations for bicycle safety presentations with advanced notice.
