Bike Patrol
The Plainville Police Department Bike Squad currently has four officers assigned to it. The officers must undergo an intense 45 hour training course which includes operating a bicycle in high stress situations, in heavy crowds, and for general patrol use. Bike Officers are also trained in bicycle safety, bicycle maintenance, and laws pertaining to bicyclists. The Plainville Police department Bicycle Squad serves a vital patrol function. Bike officers are used to patrol public events and parks during the spring and summer seasons. Officers on bicycles are far more visible to the public, making them more approachable. Patrol on bicycles give officers accessability to areas that are normally inaccessable to officers in cars. The Plainville Police Department Bicycle Squad is available for groups and organizations for bicycle safety presentations with advanced notice.
