Traffic Division

The Traffic Division provides technical support and expertise to the police department in the areas of accident investigation, drunk and/or impaired driving, and speed enforcement. This division is responsible for overseeing the investigation of all serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents that occur in Plainville. We have trained accident investigators who, by using state-of-the-art specialized computer software, are able to reconstruct an accident scene to help determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Traffic Division investigates citizen complaints of speeding vehicles, illegal parking, abandoned vehicles, and other traffic-related issues. Assigned personnel facilitate the planning and coordination of security, police escorts, and/or crowd control for all large scale events in town such as the Annual Fire Department Balloon Festival and the General Electric & Petit Family Foundation 5k Road Race.

The Plainville Police Department has been recognized over the years for its efforts and accomplishments related to traffic safety. Our traffic safety programs received three consecutive first place awards in the Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association Law Enforcement Challenge. In addition our police department received three first place awards for the Best Overall Impaired Driving Program and for the past three years has received special recognition from the well-respected, national organization, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
