BUSINESS CLIMATE

Plainville is best characterized as a small town.  At just under 10 square miles, it is in fact one of the smallest towns in the state.  But do not let our size fool you.  We boast a high quality of life with a skilled labor force, above average educational attainment rates, and a diverse economy that has managed to hang onto a proportionally high percentage of its manufacturing base.  Our largest taxpayers/employers include General Electric Company, Tilcon CT, Inc., Gems Sensors, Inc., and Wheeler Clinic.  We are in the process of purchasing Robertson Airfield and look forward to having the distinction of being one of very few Connecticut municipalities that own their own airport.

Our Town Manager/Town Council form of government provides for an efficient, business friendly experience.  Town Staff has been trained to work with business and industry to help them achieve their goals.  The Economic Development Agency takes an active role in supporting business development through their tax incentive and business loan programs.

Plainville strives to offer advantages to business wishing to locate in our community and our demographic makeup supports a wide and diverse workforce ready to help you succeed.  Plainville’s location (provide link to appropriate location map here) at the intersection of State Route 72 and Interstate 84 make it ideal for business that relies on transportation.  In addition, rail service and a regional airport (link to photo and brief text intro) are available to add value to your business.

Plainville has two industrial parks.  The first, known as Strawberry Fields, is a qualified State Contiguous Municipality Zone (CMZ).  The CMZ is more commonly referred to as the Enterprise Zone, (click on link for more detailed information) where the State of Connecticut offers strong tax incentives for qualifying manufacturing firms.  Incentives reducing tax exposure on real property improvements and certain equipment purchases of up to 80% offered over a five year period are standard for qualifying firms.  Additional tax credits are available under certain circumstances.  A map of the Plainville Contiguous Municipality Zone is available by clicking HERE.

The Farmington Valley Corporate Park also has space available for a variety of business types.  The list of existing tenants in this park is impressive:Champion Windows, Autopart International, GPA America’s Label Experts,  Berendsen Fluid Power, Allerquest, Walker Crane, William Rothman Company, Conestoga-Rover & Associates, SolvIt, Fabtron, Sportika, DiMatteo Construction, Advanced Reprographics, Euromac, The Office Works, Connecticut Tool & Manufacturing, and The Health Consultants Group.  This aerial photo of the Park explains why it's been such a smashing success!  Come see what all the fuss is about!

Infrastructure is in place and ready to accommodate your business.  Permitted uses are generally approved through a simple site plan review process and staff is always there to answer your questions and help explain the process.
