Committee Recommends Gold Star Monument

The Town Council recently formed a Gold Star Committee to address the proposal made by Bob Doolittle to have a memorial to honor Gold Star Mothers & Families.  The Committee included Town Council members (3), Parks & Recreation Advisory Board members (2), Veterans Council members (2), and local leaders of the VFW and American Legion.  The Committee also included a staff member from Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty’s Office, Mr. Bob Doolittle and the Town Manager.

At their initial meeting, the Committee unanimously voted to erect the monument on the west side of Veterans Park in the downtown area of Plainville.  The goal is to have the memorial in place by this Memorial Day which will be observed on Monday, May 29, 2017.

All donations will go towards the construction of the Gold Star Monument.  Any excess monies collected will go towards improvements to Veterans Memorial Park.
