Transportation

Air: Home to one of the busiest corporate and private aircraft facilities in central Connecticut—Robertson Airport—Plainville retains the advantage of providing air service to many of the surrounding communities. Robertson Airport, run by Interstate Aviation Inc., maintains a 3,612-foot asphalt, lighted runway and a 30-by-30-foot helipad for private and commercial usage. Averaging 162 daily flights, as well as providing aircraft storage and repair services, Robertson represents a vital factor in central Connecticut’s growing economy.

Ground: Being at the geographical center of Connecticut, Plainville has easy access to many of Connecticut’s most important highways. Connecticut Route 72, a bustling commercial thoroughfare, bisects Plainville and intersects with Interstate 84—the major east-west highway in Connecticut. I-84 connects Plainville to Boston and New York, both only a two-hour drive. Connecticut Route 9, also easily accessible from Plainville, carries traffic to both Interstate 91 and Interstate 95. Both of these interstates are major north-south arteries, linking Connecticut with New York, Long Island and the eastern seaboard.

Rail: Local freight service is provided along the Conrail trackage from both Boston and Maine. There are currently two local freight schedules to the west via the City of Waterbury and to the south and east via the Town of Plainville.
